Saint-Martin-de-Belleville, village of the 3 Valleys

Until 1965, Saint-Martin-de-Belleville still lived at the rhythm of the past. Isolated in its valley bottom, the population had for only resource the breeding and subsisted painfully. The young people left the country to seek their fortune elsewhere. Isolated by the absence of roads and the lack of equipment, the Belleville Valley was slow to open up to the changes of the 20th century. It took all the conviction and pugnacity of Nicolas Jay, mayor of the Commune, to offer it a tourist destiny in the 1960s. Its vast spaces were the ideal terrain for the creation of Les Menuires (1963), then Val Thorens (1972).

In the 80’s, a tourist development project designed the village resort that was missing in the Valley: Saint-Martin-de-Belleville. The new tourist complex, called the Grangerais, adopts the codes of traditional architecture: construction with limited height, adaptation of the building to the slope, exposed stone or pink rendering on the facade, roofs in slate. It is grafted onto the village without taking over. Saint Martin de Belleville is a village on a human scale, a jewel box of authenticity, with quality accommodation and people who cultivate the art of hospitality, a unique experience that combines great skiing and art of living. Lovers of gourmet skiing, powder snow or ski touring, enthusiasts of virgin snow, love to set down their bags in this confidential setting where luxury is not ostentatious but a source of emotion.
